Inside: Simple tips on becoming a more stylish SAHM. Identify quick wins in your day-to-day to find your way back to your polished & most confident you.
I remember it like it was yesterday…Luke was in preschool
As I ran around the house, gathering all the socks and towels for a load of whites, I caught a glimpse of something in the mirror that stopped me in my tracks.
It was a woman.
She seemed just as startled to see me staring back at her. This woman bared a strong resemblance to me…but there were striking differences between that woman and the one I knew myself to be.
Her clothes? Well…she was in sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt. Her hair? A messy bun (not the cute kind) and she was in desperate need of some fresh highlights. Make-up? Not likely.
I couldn’t look away.
A startling realization hung heavy over my head and my heart sunk to the floor.
She was me. I was…her?
Something oh-so-wrong happened fashion-wise along the way of my stay-at-home adventures.
I used to have so much fun with my look. I knew my style to a T, and was proud of what I was putting out there for the world to see. After all, first impressions are powerful, right? And each day in the work world, there were new people to meet—and looking the part was FUN!
The change didn’t happen overnight.
Two pregnancies and fluctuating clothing sizes played a part. With long days at home, looking the part of this gig was all too easy. Why get dressed up JUST to have baby food thrown at my cute new top anyway? Plus, I was comfortable. And with so many other responsibilities to focus on, easy and comfy clothes just made sense.
After I put some thought and just the tiniest amount of energy into it, I realized getting back to “me” style-wise, and becoming
My Simple Tips to Becoming a Stylish SAHM, Effortlessly
1. Whiter Teeth
Have you ever taken a look at someone and just been captivated by their smile? It’s typically not something we can put our finger on, but whiter teeth play a major role in making people look more confident, attractive, and healthy.
It can truly be as simple as switching to a daily whitening toothpaste to brighten up a smile that’s been dulled through the years. Likely culprits are too much coffee, the occasional glass of red wine—and just life in general.
My favorite way to get movie-star white teeth on a budget is by using Crest White Strips. Wearing these strips for 30 minutes a day as I multi-task housework gets me one step closer to looking effortlessly fab.
Helpful tip: If you experience tooth sensitivity, rub a tiny bit of Sensodyne on your teeth at the gum line prior to white strip application.
2. Be Intentional with Your Wardrobe
As my kids get older and more independent, it’s easier (and appropriate ) for me to start breathing some new life into my own wardrobe.
But ohhhhh, where to start?!
My closet was a great divide. I had date night clothes on one extreme and workout clothes (worn on the daily) on the other. To have any hope of a cute wardrobe for everyday life, I needed help!
A quick Google search on “How to Look Less Frumpy” led me to an online service called Frump Fighters. The name is genius, right?! It turns out it’s a thoughtfully planned capsule collection, designed with moms in mind.
Corina, the mastermind behind Frump Fighters, takes the intimidation out of creating a capsule wardrobe, making easy and fun, with her well laid out plan. She even attaches links to all of her examples so you can easily click, purchase and receive at your doorstep in a few short days.
The items in this capsule collection can be found anywhere (Target, Amazon, H&M, Nordstrom, etc.) and work on any budget.

You typically fill out an online survey about your style preferences, pay a small styling fee ($20-25 a box), and receive a personally curated box, delivered to your doorstep each month.
Personally, I’ve had an awesome experience with Stitch Fix. Each box tends to get better as my personal stylist learns my preferences through a little bit of trial and error. You can click here to get $25 off your first Stitch Fix style box with my referral link.
If you’ve tried Wantable, let me know what you think in the comments. I’ll update this post as soon as I’ve had a chance to give it a try.
3. Maintain Your Gorgeous Hair–At Home
Relax! I’m not talking about diving into the great unknown with a box color you grabbed from the shelf at Walgreens. Or cutting your own hair.
Never cut your own hair.
Fun fact: I once unintentionally colored my hair purple with box color. It would have been cute if I wasn’t trying SUPER hard to seem professional & grown-up early in my career. I’ve been much more cautious about what/who I trust my hair to ever since.
Before kids, three hours at the hair salon was no big deal. Actually, it was the perfect time to catch up on a good book or get the latest gossip from the rag mags. After kids, it can be tough to find half a day to spend at the salon getting my hair did, but
Imagine my excitement when I recently discovered a quality hair coloring services online that personalize your color to your preferences & needs—just like I’d get at the salon.
I’ve grown to like using a service called eSalon. Picking a color out was pain-free, and once I submitted it, I had a hair color expert review it and contact me with suggested changes. I was THRILLED with the results I got from my kit. And the personalized instructions they sent along with it made the process virtually fool-proof. 4. Get Glowing with Great Skin
I get it. Time and money are at a premium as a busy stay-at-home-mom. Who has time for facials? Not THIS girl!
The good news?
You can actually get BETTER results in just minutes a day with a consistent skincare routine. It’s as simple as 1) cleansing 2)toning 3)moisturizing…or adding in a little something extra for a more…youthful glow. Just like whiter teeth, radiant skin is totally attainable
I’ve been a longtime fan of the EVER Pure Results Regimen for many reasons (you can read about them in my post: Clean Beauty Spotlight on EVER Skincare). I get gentle, chemical-free and RELIABLE skincare delivered to my doorstep on a schedule that makes sense for me. Click here to get your personalized skincare consultation and $20 off your first order with EVER.
5. Simplify Your Make-up Routine
Why simplify? So it actually happens! I never thought I’d go without make-up until I started staying home full time. Pre-kids, putting make-up on was relaxing. Liquid liner?
Post-kids? Applying make-up became stressful (and unnecessary) multi-tasking.
One great thing that happens when you take care of your skin? Make-up sits better on exfoliated & moisturized skin. Plus, you’ll use a lot less product too.
I tend to go for palettes that include cheek and eye color, a gloss & mascara. Check out EVER’s Color Quickie collection by clicking here. And a well-groomed eyebrow will TRANSFORM your face…again, in a very subtle and understated way. So, if you have six minutes instead of five—go for the glory by filling in sparse spots in your eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil that offers a soft, natural look.

6. Take Care of Yourself from the Inside Out
I saved this one for last for a reason. After taking more pride in my outward appearance, I felt an inward shift as well. Suddenly, I was standing a little taller and my sense of self-love was re-awakening.
I began choosing healthier food options and drinking more water. Now that I’m consciously making myself more of a priority versus an afterthought, I’m thriving in more ways that I can count.
Once you start caring for yourself in small ways, they’ll grow into bigger things. You’ll look better because you feel better and feel better because you look better. A cycle we could all use more of in our lives.
I’m forever grateful for that chance encounter with my “frumpy” self in the mirror one morning, and proud of what I’m putting out there once again. I’m forever ready and excited for whatever life throws my way, and I look the part too!
Selfies with my kids? Bring ’em? Random encounters with everyone I know at Target? Love it!
